Brand Depot Shopping in Canberra

April 22, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

Our next stop after book shopping was to go to the Brand Depot Outlet near the airport. Paula was after some new shoes.

Our first stop was at FSW where she brought a really nice pair of ankle boots, sort of Robin Hood style in soft leather and another pair of casual slip ons.

Then we went to Novo, well what can I say. Absolute bargains and some really nice shoes. Paula brought another 2 pair of shoes and I (who wasn’t actually shoe shopping) brought 6, yes that’s right, 6 pairs of assorted work and casual shoes.

Now once I tell you the price you will understand why I had this need to buy 6 pairs of shoes. They were $20 for the 1st pair and $10 for the second. A bargain way too good to turn down.

So I would no sooner find 2 pairs of shoes and then see a 3rd pair I wanted so then I needed to buy a 4th pair to get the discount. Ladies will definitely understand this logic, it may escape the menfolk who only buy exactly what they need.

So all in all, a great day was had by all.

Shopping for Books in Fyshwick

April 22, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

Well here we are back at the computers after going out shopping.

We headed off to Fyshwick to go book hunting at second hand book shops. I picked up a copy of ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay and the ‘The Celestine Prophesy’, ‘The Tenth Insight’ and ‘The Celestine Prophecy: An Experimental Guide’ by James Redfield.

Along with some David Wingrove books that I had read many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Chung Kuo’ series, and some Garth Nix Books ‘Sabriel’ and ‘Lirael’ which my grandson Gage is currently reading.

The copy of Sabriel that I picked up has actually been signed by Garth Nix, so I am really happy. More so as a signed copy was for sale on the net for $48.00.

My favourite author is David Eddings and I just loved the Belgarion series, as you can tell by two of my grandchildren’s names Ce’Nedra and Garion.

If you like fantasy and adventure books then I thoroughly recommend David Eddings.

Just sitting at my computer

April 22, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

I have just been sitting here at the computer, Of Course, reading through some of the blogs on spicypage. If you haven’t joined yet then you are missing out on some great reading.

Was browsing through Crunchy Carpets site and about the trials and tribulations of her day. Part of the day was spent taking her 5 year old to soccer. And this brought back memories of when my son first started playing rugby union in New Zealand.

Of course it had been raining, an extremely common event in Auckland, so there were muddy puddles all over the field. So onto the field run our intrepid 4 and 5 years olds to do their first manly spot of sporting battle.

Much fumbling of the ball ensued along with some tears and tantrums. All really quite funny, but the thing that struck me most of all was a little blonde haired boy who had no interest in the game at all, he was far to busy checking himself out in the puddles, and trying to keep his shiny new boots from getting dirty.

When all of a sudden the game went to him and he was sent flying flat out into the mud.

After the shock of what had happened to him hit home, he ran sobbing hysterically from the field. My heart went out to him, Rugby was obviously never going to be his game.
