F.E.A.R for the PS3

April 25, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

Just yesterday we went out shopping, which is what we love to do, and bought ourselves each a copy of F.E.A.R. For those that don’t know, FEAR is a Playstation game and we have been hanging out for it for a couple of months now and finally it shows up in the shops.

As you have probably already read in previous posts both Wanda and I went out and each bought ourselves a PS3. We also both have a Wii and a Nintendo DS and a Nintendo Gamecube. Many think this is odd since we are both over 40 and still playing games but at this age we really don’t care anymore and just want to have fun and playing games is fun for us.

When we went in to buy the PS3’s on the day they came out it was just us two and what looked like a husband and wife buying them. The husband and wife looked like they were in their 50’s and the shop assistants thought we were all there buying for our kids. Forget the kids….we were all buying for ourselves!!! Is this the time to be selfish??….damn right!!

So anyway, back to FEAR. Heading back after shopping to drop Wanda off at her place we set the game up to have a quick play. They guy at Myer where we had bought our PS3’s had mentioned that this was one scary game and I thought at the time ‘how scary can a game be?’ but I can see what he meant. The game has a spookiness about it. It’s like watching a scary movie – a bit like The Ring.

As soon as I got home I set up the game on my PS3 and managed to get up to the same level as Wanda. At the moment we are both having troubles with the Up and Down controls especially when shooting which is why we keep getting killed but I think that is just a matter of practice.

So far it looks like it will be a great game but I am sure one of us will post future updates as we go through it.

I Think I Need an Xbox 360 Live

April 20, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

Now considering that we have just about every gaming platform known to man, I guess I don’t really need an Xbox 360, so it really comes down to ‘I want an Xbox’.

While I was in Brisbane at my son’s wedding, I spent some time playing Gears of War on my grandson, Sebastians, Xbox.

The game is awesome and we played a two player game with the split screen. I just loved it.

Paula and I played a two player game with Resistance the fall of man on the PS3 the other night, but it just wasn’t the same. It was just a one on one battle with one of us as the mutant and the other as the human soldier and we just had to run around and find each other and then of course slaughter each other as quickly as possible. All a bit humdrum really.

This doesn’t detract from the game which is really great to play in normal mode.

However, in Gears of War, you are a team and the gameplay is the same as if you were playing it through as a single player, so you have all the great effects of many enemies and you have 30 seconds to revive each other if you die. A much more satisfying dual gameplay.

So I am really considering buying an Xbox 360. So if anyone has any comments on their views between the PS3 and the Xbox they would be much appreciated.

PS3 Singstar Fun!

April 20, 2007 //  Leave a Comment

If you have a PS2 or PS3 and haven’t gotten yourself a Singstar game as yet then I can highly recommend you buy one.

Singstar, for those that don’t know, is a Playstation karaoke game and it is a lot of fun at parties or even if you just have a few friends over. You don’t need to know what the words are to the songs as they are printed on the screen and at the end of the song you are graded depending on how well you did as it recognizes your pitch and timing. You can also sing along with a friend in a ‘Battle’ to see who is the better singer.

Wanda already mentioned in previous posts about Resistance: Fall of Man and Genji: Days of the Blade which were the first couple of PS3 games we bought, but we also went and bought ourselves a Singstar pack as well. In the pack was the USB converter, two microphones and a Singstar disk. The microphones are really good quality..better than I expected actually…and the disks come with a variety of songs depending on your taste.

Of course we didn’t just buy the starter pack as being the big shoppers that we are we had to buy a variety of disks as well, so we ended up with the original Singstar disk, Singstar Anthems, Singstar Rocks, Singstar Legends and Singstar 80’s. I think we are just missing Singstar Pops.

The other night Wanda invited me and a couple of other friends over to her place for dinner and we spent most of the night just singing along to the songs. Not having the best voice in the world I was a bit hesitant at the start but after a while you just warm up to it and have fun. The worse you sound the more fun you have!

One of the crew took all very seriously but the rest of us just had a ball and squealed with delight when someone did well and all laughed with each other if we bombed.
