I have always been a huge Dr Who fan, right from the time it began with William Hartnell as the Dr. And over the years I have been saddened as each one passes and then grown to love the next Dr as he introduces his own distinct style and foibles into the show.
Captain Jack Harkness and Torchwood were introduced to us a couple of seasons ago in the Dr Who series.
I am finding the series has less charm and appeal than I had hoped and after watching Monday nights episode I have to say it was more of a stock standard horror than an alien story.
Now I don’t mind a good horror story that gets the adrenalin pumping but ever since watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I have a definite aversion to meat hooks, so reference to the cannibalism and hanging humans on meat hooks, kinda made me feel uneasy to say the least. The storyline turned out to be nothing to do with alien lifeforces trying to take over the planet, it didn’t even have the good old updated Daleks or Cybermen. So what is going on?
The Torchwood team, led by Captain Jack Harkness, is Earth’s first line of defense and they are supposedly protecting humanity from dangers threatening it, both from beyond the Rift and closer to home in a century where everything changes.
Still having said all that I will continue to watch the series, after all apart from Dr Who in the guise of David Tennant, there isn’t much on in the way of Sci Fi these days.
