I have just booked my airfare to Canberra from Brisbane. Nothing unusual about that, I do it all the time. And over time I have noticed how the advertised price is never the final price.
So this week the fare I selected to Canberra was shown as $145.oo. Okay its a bit high but Virgin are the cheapest for the date I want. Of course the prices drop dramatically the following week, but that’s not convenient for me, so its not an option.
After selecting the flight and proceeding through to the payment screen, there is another charge of $10 if I want to take checked luggage. Okay thats just gone up from $8.00 but its still cheaper than checking in luggage in the US as I recently found out. Its also a lot cheaper than paying for the checked luggage at the airport which is around $20
So now my airfare and luggage is selected, I decide against paying for insurance, or gas emmissions charges so I key in all the details and then I am hit with another $3.50 for booking online.
So my $145.00 airfare is now $158.50. Well I guess it beats walking.
